Class Features

All of the following are class features of the Tinker.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency:

Tinkers are proficient with all simple weapons, plus light hammer, screwdriver, sledge, and wrench. They are proficient with armored apron and all light armor, but not shields.

Tinker

Add one half Tinker level to mechanical repair Craft skill checks (e.g., Clockwork, Steam Engine) -- but such repairs are short-lived, with a lifespan of 10 minutes of continuous use, or four successive skill checks or attacks, whichever comes first.

This class feature also allows a Tinker to hadd half his level in this class to Disable Device and Knowledge(Tech) checks to recognize mechanical devices and figure out how to use them.

Searching for 1d4 hours (DC 15 Search check) yields enough salvaged spare parts to reduce the cost of construction or repairs by 25%. Exceeding the DC by at least five points allows the Tinker to reduce the cost by 35%. Parts salvaged in this manner cannot be resold, however -- and the cost reduction for construction or repair also reduces the resale value of the complete object by the same amount.

Thanks to these salvage skills, a Tinker can also use the Disable Device skill with mechanics' tools instead of thieves' tools, and if a Tinker exceeds a trap's Disable Device DC by 10 or more, he can study it to learn its design.

Evasion

as Rogue

Kludge

At second level, by kicking, striking, cursing, and otherwise disturbing the innards of a mechanical device, a Tinker may coax it to work for 1d4 rounds without having to actually repair it. In combat, kludging is a full-round action. This only works on a given piece of machinery or clockwork for a given unrepaired problem 1d4 times; after that, it requires proper repairs to function again.

Kludge can also be used to enhance a Use Magic Device check. I'll finish filling this section out later.

Monkeywrench

A Tinker's understanding of mechanical devices and constructs is so great that attacks against them do an additional +1d6 damage per three levels in the Tinker class.

Improved Tinker

At fifth level, a Tinker may add one half his class level to Search checks to find at least partially mechanical traps.

Improved Kludge

The lifespan of a Kludge is increased to 1d4 minutes. This can also be used to eke another use out of a "charged" item without recharging it, on a successful Use Magic Device check (or Disable Device, if nonmagical). The Tinker may use this ability more than once, but failure damages or "burns out" the device so thoroughly beyond repair that it can never be recharged or used again.
